Qingyuan City Tour

It is always really challenging to do a research about the city before you make the trip there. You would like to ask yourself some questions in advance such as how to go there, where to stay and what kind of attractions to visit. Finally you round up all the information you collected and design a super fantastic tailored itinerary which is most suitable for your interest and purpose. For me, I only have weekends. So I planned to explore the most hectic part of the city in the most economic way and at the same time experience the different kinds of travelling modes plus local cuisine.

The trip is triggered by the job interview invitation from a company located in Qingyuan city. As a consistent curious fan to new places and simultaneously a budget traveller, I decided to stay in the city after the interview and explore the streets, find local food and see the city’s view.

Qingyuan called Phoenix city by Chinese folks is also known as the Backyard Garden of Guangdong Province because of the thriving tourism. I started in the early morning from Panyu and arrived at the new coach terminal of Qingyuan after 2 hours journey. Some problem happened when I look for the No.6 bus which should be riding between the new coach terminal and the old bus station according to zuoche.com (the main transportation guide website for many big cities in China). However it is actually going to another destination. After consulting from the information centre, I got to know there is no bus to the old bus station from here. So I had to change my plan and head to the hotel first.

The city centre of Qingyuan is Qingcheng region. The Beijiang northern river is flowing across the Qingcheng region and divides it into old town area and new town area where the big Qingyuan bridge connects the two towns. Myriads of modernized residential buildings scatted by the road sides at the end of the bridge. The landmark for the city centre area is Zhongshan park, Tianhu hotel, Bubugao hotel, city square and Yifu square. The streets around are Beimen street, Nanmen street, Chengbei road, Xuegongkou street, Xianfeng road and Shuguang road.

I got confused when booking hotels. I sorted several affordable hotels online with a convenient location. But when I started to call the hotel hotlines I was directed to some travel agents every time and told to dial 114 to contact the hotels. This made me little bit frustrated. Then I decided to find a hotel after arriving Qingyuan because it is also an easy way. Finally I got accommodation at 7 Days Inn Nanmen street which is very convenient to all the other places that I would like to go.

Some problems happened when I was searching for food as well. The centre of the town looks like combination of two civilizations. It is more like some kinda mixed creature between city and town. Along the main street, buidlings and small streets alternates, opening stalls for small accessories and souvenirs are scattered everywhere. On the other street just few meters walking distance away, you will find very clean and tidy street without any touts. With a mind to find local food, I made my way from the crowds of people and passed narrowly through the stalls but couldn’t find any food shop that will attract my attention except some of the fast food restaurants such as KFC, McDonalds, Pizza Hut and Weiqian noodles that could be found in any other city as well. This is really very disappointing and tiring searching job, as barely a good food shop come into your sight. At last I gave up and ate in a dining restaurant called Shiyinli which offers diversified cuisine and beverage, noodles, rice, hotpot and juices. I would like to recommend here especially to eat hotpot. There is a big table supplying sources and flavourings. You can make the sources according to your own taste there. And it is really relaxing and casual eating at Shiyinli.

On the second day I planned the back trip home. In order to experience the different traveling mode, I chose to take the bullet train. It is very interesting to travel by bullet train CRH as it only takes about 25 minutes from Qingyuan station to Guangzhou south railway station. The Qingyuan railway station CRH is located on the top of a hill from where you can look down the countryside. It is really a breathtaking view.
